São Paulo was founded on January 25, 1554, and remained a poor village for more than two centuries due to it being difficult to reach. At the turn of the eighteenth century, with the discovery of gold in the state of Minas Gerais, São Paulo was given special attention, since it was at a strategic point on the trade route. In the nineteenth century, with the Coffee Boom, the city consolidated its position as an important economy in Brazil. With the arrival of the Italians between the end of the nineteenth century and the start of the twentieth, the factories settled in São Paulo and their growth has continued to this day as a result.

Nowadays, São Paulo is not only a national economic hub, the capital city is also a cultural center for the entire country, Brazil’s most renowned and thriving city. The main national museums are there, like the MASP (São Paulo Art Museum) and the Ipiranga Museum. As if that weren’t enough, the city doesn’t sleep: it has the country’s best, most modern bars and nightclubs.
