Fortaleza is big. The size of the city and its demographic density match its age and history. Spread across a gigantic area of 313,800 km², 2.5 million people inhabit the capital of the state of Ceará. It is Brazil’s fifth most populated city and one of the most remembered by tourists from around the world who decide to visit our country. Why would that be? It began to be colonized early in the first century of Brazil’s discovery, around 1590. After many conflicts, in 1799, already under the domain of Portugal, Fortaleza was chosen as the state capital.
